Using only natural ingredients, we work with talented chefs and some really smart nutritionists to make clean fuel for athletes that tastes great.

We make natural performance food.

We want to help more people perform at their very best.

We weren’t planning to start a sports food business. We were just looking for a great-tasting energy snack without artificial ingredients. When we couldn’t find it, we decided to make it ourselves. The result was a new way for athletes to fuel: clean energy, from real food, in a squeezable pouch.

A lot of sports food is made using highly processed, artificial ingredients. Nearly all of it tastes like candy.

We’re offering an alternative: the next best thing to home-made. Performance snacks that are delicious, made from natural ingredients, that can be eaten anywhere.

If you’re reading this, you’re on our team. And it's our job to support you by listening to feedback, always improving and always learning. We’re here to make you look good.

A personal best is just that. Whether you’re working out to clear the head, beat a time or just stay in shape, we’re all in it for different reasons, with different motivations. Respect others’ and own yours. And whatever yours is, we’re here to help you be it.

Of all industries, food has one of the largest negative impacts on the environment. We want to change that. We choose the sustainable option where possible, or try to create one if it doesn’t exist. Over time we aim to be net neutral and eventually net positive for the environment.

We’re open about who we are as a company, what goes into our products and how we source our ingredients.

Instead of using focus groups to develop our products, we work with the experts: you.

Athletes know what they like and what they don’t, and which products they want to exist that currently don’t.

Our products are all created using the same basic formula: natural + delicious + performance.

Nature has an abundance of energy-rich superfoods. We use only natural and organic ingredients.

As a rule of thumb, if a child can't pronounce it, we won't include it. What we leave out is as important as what we put in.

Every snack has to be something to look forward to. The taste of our products comes from the natural flavors of their ingredients, not artificial additives. We work with talented chefs to make fueling a delicious experience.

We’re here to help every athlete perform at their very best. Each snack is a purposeful combination of ingredients, created with the help of some really smart sports nutritionists, to deliver the nutrients athletes need, in the right way, at the right time.

The food industry’s impact on the environment is substantial, accounting for close to a third of the global carbon footprint. Agriculture is responsible for 70% of water use worldwide, and is a major polluter of ocean and fresh waterways.

We want to help reduce that impact. We’re starting with small steps, and will do more as we grow.

Here’s what we’re doing.

We create all of our products so that they don’t need refrigeration, and have a shelf life of at least 1 year. We achieve this by using ingredients with natural preservative qualities, and through our manufacturing process.

“Naturally shelf-stable” is more sustainable in two ways:

  • It eliminates the need for refrigerated transport and cold storage, which lowers the carbon footprint of each snack.
  • It helps reduce food waste. American households throw out 150,000 tons of food per day, equal to 1 pound per person. It is a waste of the food, but also the resources required to grow, process, transport and package it. By preserving food, shelf stable products help us use more of what is grown, and less of those resources.

Our first Clean Fuel flavor is made using 96% organic ingredients (excluding water). Why organic?

"Organic" means that food is grown and processed without using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. It is a system of production that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than industrial methods.

For the environment, there are many benefits:

Healthier soil. A  nine-year study by USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) showed that one teaspoon of soil treated with chemicals carried 100 helpful bacteria, compared to 600 million to 1 billion helpful bacteria from 15,000 species for one teaspoon of compost-rich organic soil.

Combats soil erosion. A major study that compared organic and chemically treated wheat fields found 8 more inches of topsoil in the organic field, and one third of the erosion loss.

Reduces pollution of waterways. Toxic runoff from farms due to chemical fertilizer and harmful pesticides is a major cause of river pollution and algae blooms, and threatens the ecosystems that depend on them. Organic farming helps to prevent toxic runoff.

Organic farmers use less water.

Reduced carbon footprint. Rodale Institute Farming Systems Trial is a side-by-side comparison of conventional and organic agriculture, and has been running since 1981. The trial has shown that a healthy organic agriculture system can reduce carbon dioxide. The Rodale research shows that: "If only 10,000 medium sized farms in the U.S. converted to organic production, they would store so much carbon in the soil that it would be equivalent to taking 1,174,400 cars off the road.

Worker health. Harsh herbicides and pesticides are not used, which means the farmers and pickers who bring you those foods are not exposed to their effects.

For athletes, it’s a cleaner fuel:

Less toxins: Eating organic lowers the intake of pesticide residue and toxins related to synthetic fertilizers that are found in conventionally grown ingredients.

No GMOs: Organic regulations forbid Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

The pouches we use can’t be recycled in most municipal programs, but they can be recycled.

For the short term, we are in talks with a potential partner to set up a recycling program, and will make an announcement once it is in place.

For the long term, pouches that can be recycled in municipal programs are in development. We are in talks with a supplier about switching to that packaging as soon as it is available.
